Naoise Murphy is a Lecturer in English at Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Their research focuses on queer and trans studies, gender and sexuality, modern and contemporary literature, and postcolonial studies. They specialize in 20th-century Irish literature, examining themes of queerness, gender, space, and time through authors like Elizabeth Bowen and Kate O’Brien. Current projects include a book on these themes and research on lesbian/transmasculine representation in mid-20th-century English middlebrow fiction.
Teaching includes Prelims courses on Literature in English from 1830–1910 and 1910–Present, as well as MSt supervision in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Research extends to collaborative projects on queer history, colonial legacies in Cambridge, and radical history in London. Methodologies emphasize oral history and community-engaged approaches.
