Nancy Netzer is a Professor of Art History and the Inaugural Robert L. and Judith T. Winston Director of the McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and a B.A. from Connecticut College. Her research focuses on early medieval art, illuminated manuscripts, and the history of museums, with a particular emphasis on Insular manuscripts and the reception of medieval art across periods. She leads the Museum Studies concentration within the Art History program and has curated over 80 exhibitions, specializing in medieval and early modern art.
Her notable contributions include collaborative projects like the European-wide analysis of manuscripts from the Age of Charlemagne, combining art history with scientific methods. Awards include an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Ulster (2000) and the Massachusetts Governor’s Award (2018) for public humanities. She has held fellowships from the Whiting Foundation and ACLS, and served on the board of Mass Humanities.
