Nancy Lyons

Nancy Lyons is Professor Emeritus of Dance at Sonoma State University. She holds an MA in Dance from Mills College and BA from UC Berkeley. Trained initially by Elizabeth Waters (Hanya Holm company), she developed expertise in dance technique, improvisation, choreography, and somatics. Her career includes national and international performances across Europe and Asia.

She co-authored foundational dance texts Openings and Inner Workings, The Moving Box, and The Moving Book with Rebecca Fuller (former Mills College Dance Department Chair). Her pedagogical approach integrates somatic practices with contemporary dance methodologies.
