Nancy Levine

Nancy Levine is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research focuses on socio-cultural anthropology, particularly examining kinship systems, pastoralist communities, and the impacts of political-economic changes on family structures in Tibetan and Himalayan regions.

Research Interests:

• Family and marriage systems
• Pastoralism and sedentarization
• Political economy of development
• Gender dynamics
• Social change in Central Asia and Tibet
• Multi-species anthropology

Publications span topics from polyandry and child care practices to taxation systems in Tibetan societies. Her recent work examines sibling roles in pastoralist kinship and traditional governance structures.
