Nancy L. Deutsch is the Linda K. Bunker Professor of Education and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at the University of Virginia's School of Education and Human Development. She also serves as Director of Youth-Nex, a center dedicated to effective youth development. Her academic roles include editorial board positions for the Journal of Adolescent Research and Qualitative Psychology, as well as advisory roles for the National Mentoring Resource Center.
Deutsch holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University (2004) and a B.A. from Vassar College (1993). Her research focuses on socio-ecological contexts of adolescent development, identity formation, and the role of after-school programs. She emphasizes creating equitable environments for at-risk youth through relationships with supportive adults and systemic program evaluation.
Her work has been funded by organizations like the William T. Grant Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. Key publications include Pride in the Projects (2008) and After-School Programs and Youth Development (2011).
