Nancy Gauvin

Nancy Gauvin serves as an Assistant Professor and Associate Dean of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS). She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. Her roles include directing the Communication and Health Equity Outcomes Research Initiative and leading the Health Equity Access Lab (HEAL), which focuses on eliminating barriers to healthcare access for marginalized groups.

Research Interests: Dr. Gauvin's work centers on health equity in clinical practice and education, with a focus on cultural competency, community engagement, and DEI policy development. Her HEAL lab addresses systemic inequities in healthcare access and clinical training. She has pioneered initiatives like Vermont’s gender affirming voice program and implicit bias training for students.

Grants & Leadership: A key member of Pitt’s Race and Social Determinants of Equity Cluster Hire Initiative, she collaborates across institutions to build intercollegiate DEI networks (e.g., National Black Association of Speech-Language and Hearing affiliate chapter). Her “Plan, Do, Study, Elevate” framework drives institutional change for inclusive environments.
