Nai Rui Chng is a Research Fellow in Infectious Disease Ecology at the University of Glasgow's MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit within the School of Health & Wellbeing. He also holds associate roles in the School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine and School of Education. His research focuses on One Health, Planetary Health, and evaluating complex interventions to address global health challenges.
- Leads the PHIRST project on evidence-based policymaking for public health.
- Develops monitoring frameworks for rabies control (SPEEDIER project).
- Co-Investigator on the GALLANT project for sustainable urban transitions.
Research interests include rabies elimination, social prescribing, environmental governance, and implementation science. He founded Good Evaluation, a social venture supporting evaluation practices. Active in interdisciplinary networks like the Boyd Orr Centre and Sustainable Futures in Africa (SFA).
Grants include funding from UKRI, British Academy, and Wellcome Trust for projects in Thailand, Philippines, and Malawi. Supervised PhD students focusing on rabies surveillance, schistosomiasis interventions, and marine animal entanglement.
Teaches on postgraduate courses like 'Health and Culture' and 'Themes in One Health'. Previously lectured on Political Social Movements at the University of Glasgow.
