Dr. Nael Bhanji is an Associate Professor at Trent University's Department of Gender & Women's Studies. A critical race and trans studies theorist, his work intersects with psychoanalysis and affect theory to examine necropolitics, racialization, and counter-terrorism in globalized trans movements.
His research interests include:

Recent publications explore homonationalism, necrointimacies, and trans political economy, with a focus on affective circulation of expendability and death in public imaginaries. His work has appeared in Capacious, Trans Studies Quarterly, and Transgender Migrations. Notably, he was a 2018-2019 Visiting Scholar at York University's Sexuality Studies program.
