Nadia V. Celis is a Joint Associate Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures and Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies at Bowdoin College. She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from Rutgers University and a Graduate Certificate in Gender and Women’s Studies. Her research focuses on Caribbean literature, gender studies, and the works of Gabriel García Márquez. She is the author of Crónica de un amor terrible (2023) and La rebelión de las niñas (2015), winner of the Nicolás Guillén Award. Celis has held academic positions at Bowdoin since 2007, progressing from Assistant to Associate Professor.
Her research explores intersections of gender, power, and violence in literary works, particularly in the context of Caribbean and Latin American narratives. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including Latin American Literature Today and Revista de Estudios de Género y Sexualidades, and has been awarded fellowships from the Harry Ransom Center and Bowdoin College.
Celis’s academic service includes leadership roles such as Program Director of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies (2017–2021) and committee memberships focused on diversity and curriculum development. She also actively engages in public scholarship through media interviews and cultural consultations, including her work with the Harry Ransom Center archives.
