Professor Nachiappan Subramanian is a faculty member at the University of Sussex Business School, holding the position of Professor of Operations & Logistics Management and Supply Chains within the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU). He has over 27 years of experience, including 25 years in academia and 2 years in consulting. His academic journey includes a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Nottingham, supported by the BOYSCAST program, and an Australian Endeavour Research Fellowship. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).
Subramanian's research focuses on sustainable supply chains, supply chain resilience, technology-driven operations, and performance measurement. He has published over 120 refereed papers and edited multiple special issues. His work includes studies on blockchain applications, circular economy, and digital capabilities in supply chains. He has secured eight research grants, including leadership roles in projects like the REMP (remanufacturing e-marketplace) and the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre.
As an educator, Subramanian has taught in the UK, China, India, and Australia, and contributed to executive education programs such as the Victoria & Albert Museum Master Class. He currently directs the MSc Global Supply Chain Management (Online) program and serves as an Associate Editor for Socio-Economic Planning Sciences and International Journal of Logistics Management.
His awards and recognitions include fellowships from Indian governmental bodies and the BOYSCAST program. He is also a Co-Investigator at the Digit Research Centre and actively engaged in industry partnerships.
