About
Prof. Dr. Mutlu Özcan is the Chair of the Clinic for Masticatory Disorders and Dental Biomaterials at the University of Zurich's Faculty of Medicine. Her translational research focuses on advancing dental biomaterials, adhesive protocols, and digital technologies in restorative dentistry, with emphasis on minimally invasive approaches and clinical applications.
Research Interests:
- Development and optimization of dental biomaterials (ceramics, composites, adhesives)
- Clinical validation of CAD/CAM technologies and 3D-printed restorations
- Mechanisms of adhesion in fixed prosthodontics and endodontics
- Long-term performance of minimally invasive dental restorations
Her publications predominantly explore material durability, bonding efficacy, and clinical outcomes of novel restorative systems. Recent work (2023–2025) shows strong focus on:
- Mechanical testing of 3D-printed resins and ceramics under aging conditions
- AI applications in implantology and pathology detection
- Bioactive materials for bone regeneration and caries management
Prof. Özcan leads significant clinical trials evaluating resin composites, ceramics, and endocrowns, often employing randomized controlled designs. She collaborates internationally on studies involving computational modeling (FEA, fluid dynamics) and material innovation.
