Murray Greig is the Head of the School of Wind, Brass and Percussion and Director of Brass at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He also serves as a Senior Tutor in Trumpet and oversees roles such as principal study tuition, ensemble direction, and audition panels. His career spans over three decades, including 30 years as Principal Trumpet with the Orchestra of Opera North before transitioning to full-time academia in 2022.
- Education: Studied Trumpet at the RNCM under Howard Snell (1984–1988).
- Performance: Extensive experience as guest principal trumpet across UK and European orchestras, chamber music collaborations with groups like the Brass Ensemble of Opera North, and solo/recital engagements globally.
- Teaching: Masterclasses in Europe, America, and Asia; former students hold prominent orchestral and teaching roles worldwide.
Leadership & Service: Member of the International Trumpet Guild Board (ITG), hosted the 2002 ITG conference at RNCM. Current responsibilities include directing the RNCM Brass Ensemble and shaping curriculum for wind, brass, and percussion studies.
