MurphyKate Montee

MurphyKate Montee is the Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Carleton College. She has been at Carleton since 2020, teaching courses such as Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Structures. Her research focuses on geometric group theory, cube complexes, random groups, and low-dimensional topology, with a PhD from the University of Chicago (2020) under advisor Danny Calegari.

Education: PhD in Mathematics from the University of Chicago (2020); MA in Mathematics from the University of Chicago; MAS from the University of Cambridge.

She co-organizes the MaGGiC seminar with Michelle Chu, which connects Carleton College and University of Minnesota students in geometry and groups research. Her work bridges advanced geometric and algebraic structures, contributing to foundational areas in topology and group theory.
