Murali Subbarao

Professor Murali Subbarao is a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stony Brook University, part of the State University of New York. He holds a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park. His research focuses on Computer Vision, Digital Image Processing, and 3D Medical Imaging, with significant contributions to techniques like Depth-from-Defocus and medical imaging systems. He has authored over 50 papers, 9 U.S. patents (4 licensed), and supervised over a dozen Ph.D. students. His work includes patents on MRI and SPECT imaging, and he has led research grants from NSF and industry. Previously, he co-founded a startup for online image management. His research emphasizes practical applications in computer vision and medical technologies.
