Mtume Gant is a New York City born Filmmaker whose work critically engages with racial politics and social justice. His notable films include SPIT (screened at Aspen Shortfest, Woodstock, and Cucalorus), WHITE FACE (which won multiple film festival awards), and MOLD OF MALACHI (a critique of racial politics in the entertainment industry). He is currently awaiting the release of his feature film THE HAND THAT FEEDS and is developing a film on the Black Power Movement. Prior to academia, Gant had a career as an actor (appearing in HBO's Oz and Carlito's Way: Rise to Power) and as a touring musician in Hip Hop and Jazz Fusion across five continents. As an educator, he worked for a decade as a teaching artist in New York City before joining Purchase.
