Prof. Morteza Aramesh is an Assistant Professor at ETH Zürich's Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, leading the Laboratory for Single-Molecule and Single-Cell Biophysics since 2024. He holds a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and joined ETH Zürich in 2016 as a Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow.
His research focuses on single-cell and single-molecule biophysics, including nanopore sensing, cell engineering, and biomaterials. Key areas include developing platforms for real-time cell analysis and engineering biomaterials for tissue regeneration. His work integrates nanotechnology, biophysics, and biomedical engineering to advance diagnostics and therapies.
Prior roles include Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at Uppsala University (2021–2023) and Group Leader at ETH Zürich’s Health Science & Technology Department (2018–2021). His lab specializes in single-molecule and -cell biophysics, addressing challenges in cell instructive interfaces and nanoscale biosensing.
