Dr. Mora Beauchamp-Byrd is an Associate Professor of Art History and Director of Museum & Cultural Heritage Studies at Florida State University. She holds a PhD from Duke University and specializes in African Diaspora art, global modern/contemporary art, and museum studies. Her research explores intersections between artistic practices, cultural heritage, and socio-political issues like race, class, and gender. She has curated major exhibitions including Transforming the Crown and Little Nemo’s Progress, and serves on the College Art Association’s Board of Directors.
Her teaching spans Art of the African Diaspora, Museum Practicum, and Comics Studies. Current research focuses on New Orleans photographer Arthur P. Bedou’s portraiture. She has held leadership roles in academic and curatorial institutions, including co-editing Panorama journal.
Research interests include Black British art post-1980s, Caribbean art, and representations of marginalized groups in animation/comics. Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary curatorial practice, emphasizing decolonial frameworks and community engagement.
