Monk Rowe is a Lecturer in Music at Hamilton College, where he directs the Fillius Jazz Archive. He is an active performer on saxophone and piano, composer, and educator with a focus on jazz, blues, and oral history preservation.
Research & Contributions: As director of the Fillius Jazz Archive, he has conducted over 400 videotaped interviews with jazz artists, co-authored Jazz Tales From Jazz Legends, and developed the edX online course Jazz: The Music, The Stories, The Players. His work bridges jazz history, aesthetic education, and interdisciplinary musicology.
Performance & Collaborations: He leads the Five Families Ensemble, combining brass, woodwinds, percussion, strings, and vocals, and performs regularly in jazz trios, combos, and solo settings. His repertoire spans classical to contemporary jazz and blues.
