Monique Mehmi is a Postgraduate Researcher and Graduate Teaching Fellow at the Liverpool Law School, University of Liverpool. She commenced her PhD in September 2022 with an anticipated completion in December 2026, under the supervision of Professor Helen Stalford and Dr. Nicolás Brando. Her doctoral research focuses on age assessments and their impact on unaccompanied minors' access to protection, exploring the blurred boundaries between childhood and adulthood.
Monique holds a Law undergraduate degree and an MA in Child Care Law and Practice from Keele University. Her professional experience includes research roles at Keele, Lancaster, and Leicester Universities, addressing topics such as adult social care during the pandemic and restorative justice for victims of child abuse. She is affiliated with the European Children’s Rights Unit (ECRU).
Her teaching responsibilities include Contract Law and Land Law modules. Her research interests span children’s rights, immigration law, and the socio-legal implications of age assessment practices. Her publications and conference presentations reflect a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches, addressing public health, criminal justice, and social policy challenges.
