Monika Knul is a Senior Lecturer in Archaeological and Geographical Geomatics at the University of Winchester’s School of Humanities. Her expertise spans Palaeolithic archaeology, GIS, remote sensing, and ecological niche modelling. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Leiden University, and a PhD from Bournemouth University on faunal and human biogeography during the Terminal Pleistocene.

Her research focuses on Pleistocene mammals, hominin-environment interactions, and geomatics applications in archaeology. Current projects include the Historic England-funded PREPARE initiative (England-wide Palaeolithic GIS tool) and the PAGES project (geochronology/palaeoenvironmental studies in Armenia’s Hrazdan gorge). She also contributes to environmental reconstructions at Trou Al’Wesse (Belgium) and Kalavan II (Armenia) using small mammal proxies.
Teaching specialties include GIS, geomatics, Palaeolithic archaeology, and archaeological field techniques across BA/BSc/MA/MRes programmes. She collaborates with Prof. Keith Wilkinson and Dr. Jenni Sherriff on fieldwork and photogrammetry.
