Monica Santamaria is Full Professor of Applied Physical Chemistry at University of Palermo. Research focuses on electrochemical materials for energy conversion, including fuel cell membranes, corrosion protection, and catalytic materials. She received the Hans-Jürgen Engell Prize (2006) from the International Society of Electrochemistry for contributions to electrochemical materials science.
Innovations include functionalized membranes for thin-film fuel cells and electrochemical synthesis of hybrid materials. Teaching includes Chemistry for Engineering and Materials Durability courses.
Recent publications demonstrate advances in electrolysis catalysts and additive manufacturing surface treatments. Research collaborations include University of Bremen through Erasmus agreements.
