About
Monica Prezzi is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Purdue University's Lyles School of Civil Engineering. She holds a Ph.D. (1995) and M.S. (1995) from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Brazil's Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1986). Her work spans geotechnical engineering with a focus on pile foundations, soil disturbance in ground engineering, and sustainable construction practices.

Dr. Prezzi's research explores pile design, prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs), soil compaction, and recyclable materials in civil engineering. Her work often integrates computational tools like ALPAXL and LATPAXL for pile analysis and leverages Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for geotechnical studies. She collaborates extensively with the Center for Offshore and Energy Engineering (COFFEE) at Purdue.
Dr. Prezzi has received multiple accolades, including the ICE Geotechnical Research Medal (2015), ASCE Telford Premium (2011), and DFI Young Professor Paper Award (2005). She serves as Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and as a full member of the ICE Editorial Panel.
Her mentorship includes advising 10 Ph.D. students, many co-advised with Professor Rodrigo Salgado, focusing on geotechnical challenges in foundation design and soil mechanics.
