Ferrell’s research interests center on postmodern literary forms, persona-driven narratives, and the intersection of historical and contemporary cultural tropes in poetry and fiction. Her work often subverts traditional themes of love, marriage, and identity through a lens of eerie, disquieting lyricism and philosophical inquiry.
Her accolades include the Discovery/The Nation prize, a Wallace Stegner Fellowship at Stanford University, and the Kathryn A. Morton Poetry Prize for her debut collection Beasts for the Chase (2008). Her novel The Answer Is Always Yes (2008) received recognition as a Borders Original Voices selection and Booklist’s Top Ten First Novels of 2008.
