Mojtaba Ghodsi

Dr Mojtaba Ghodsi is a Senior Lecturer in Instrumentation and Measurement Systems at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Portsmouth. He holds a PhD in Precision Engineering from the University of Tokyo, supported by a Japanese Monbusho Scholarship, and a JSPS Post-doctoral Fellowship. His research focuses on smart materials, actuators, sensors, energy harvesting, and mechatronics systems, with applications in biomedical engineering, structural health monitoring, and industrial automation.

Education: PhD in Precision Engineering (University of Tokyo), supported by Japanese Monbusho Scholarship; JSPS Post-doctoral Fellowship (Tokyo University).

Research Interests: Development of advanced materials and systems for energy harvesting, vibration control, and biomedical devices. His work includes smart insoles for gait analysis, IoT-based health monitoring systems, and novel magnetostrictive actuators. Key areas include nonlinear beam dynamics, piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials, and sensor technology.

Grants & Projects: Principal Investigator of grants totaling over £150k, including self-sensing transducers for NDT and energy harvesting systems. Collaborated on projects like vibration-based flowline integrity identification and bone drilling experiments. His work spans academic-industrial partnerships with companies like Medco Energi.
