Moira Sim

Professor Moira Sim is the Executive Dean of the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University (ECU), where she has worked since 2004. She holds a Clinical Adjunct position at the University of Western Australia’s School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. With over 30 years in clinical practice as a general practitioner and addiction medicine specialist, her work focuses on improving healthcare access through education and advocacy.

Her research interests include evidence-based clinical practice translation, alcohol/drug abuse, health prevention strategies, and managing clinical behavior. She has authored/co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work addressing treatment burden in diabetes, social care for aging populations, and emergency healthcare utilization during pandemics.

Professor Sim has received fellowships from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine. She actively contributes to healthcare governance, serving on committees like the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s Impairment Review Committee and the Medical Defence Association of Australia.

Her extensive grant portfolio includes projects on healthy aging, paramedic workforce development, and mental health service improvements. Notable collaborations involve multi-institutional research on chronic pain biomarkers and cultural empathy training through Indigenous narratives.

Professor Sim supervises doctoral and master’s students in areas like emergency symptom checkers, paramedic education, and diabetes management. Her work spans clinical practice, policy, and education, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to healthcare challenges.
