Dr. Mohammed Junaid is a Senior Lecturer in Dental Public Health at the University of Western Australia (UWA) Dental School and the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia. He holds honorary appointments at the Telethon Kids Institute, King Edward Memorial Hospital, and Sri Ramachandra Medical University, India. His expertise spans population health, craniofacial anomalies, linked data analysis, and rare diseases. He completed his PhD on craniofacial birth defects epidemiology, supported by the Australian Government and Perron Foundation scholarships.
Education: PhD in Epidemiology (UWA, 2023), MDS in Public Health Dentistry (India, 2014), Diplomas from Royal College of Surgeons (UK) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow).
Research focuses on craniofacial birth defects, mental health in children with anomalies, rheumatic heart disease, and Indigenous health. He leads projects funded by Australian Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Foundation, Australian Dental Research Foundation, and Perron Foundation. Recent grants total AU$213,211.35.
Teaching roles include coordinating DENT3008 and modules in Public Health Dentistry. He has extensive experience mentoring postgraduate students and designing community oral health programs like Clinics to Communities.
Awards include the Perron PhD Career Launching Award (2022) and Early Career Research Commendations (2023/2024). He serves on UWA’s research committee and as Treasurer of the International Association of Dental Research ANZ WA division.
