About
Dr. Mohammad Saffari is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Dublin City University (DCU), specializing in smart and energy-efficient buildings and energy systems technologies. His research focuses on sustainable buildings, renewable energy, and simulation-based optimization of thermal energy storage (TES) materials for energy savings.
- Current DCU Co-PI for the GEONORM project (geothermal energy integration in UCD's district heating scheme, funded by SEAI and Geological Survey Ireland)
- Former Senior Researcher and Engineer at UCD Energy Institute's ESIPP program
Research interests include energy simulation, optimization of energy systems, demand-side management, HVAC systems, smart control, and natural ventilation. His work spans multidisciplinary collaborations in Spain, Germany, Australia, and Ireland.
Recent publications emphasize hybrid heat pump retrofits, PCM-enhanced envelopes, and data analytics for energy systems. Projects like GEONORM highlight his focus on decarbonizing heating through geothermal and renewable mixes.
Collaborations include CausewayGT, Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions, iCRAG, Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, UCD School of Computer Science, and UCD Energy Institute.
