Mohammad Mohaghar

Mohammad Mohaghar is a Research Faculty member in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory at the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (2019) from Georgia Tech, preceded by an M.Sc. in Energy for Sustainability (2012) from the University of Coimbra and two prior M.Sc. degrees in Mechanical Engineering (2010, 2017) from Iran University of Science and Technology and Georgia Tech respectively. His academic journey began with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tehran (2008).

Research Focus
His work spans experimental fluid mechanics, turbulence, biofluid dynamics, and environmental fluid mechanics. Key projects include studying copepod locomotion, double-diffusive convection, magnetic-responsive soft materials, and shock-driven mixing phenomena. He employs advanced techniques like tomographic PIV, PLIF, and computational fluid dynamics (FLASH code) for data collection and analysis.

Teaching & Professional Experience
Teaching roles include instructor for Flow Dynamics of Soft Robotic Swimmers and teaching assistant for Fluid Mechanics. Industrial experience includes automotive engineering design roles at GarmaGostar and Mapna Locomotive Co. His technical skills encompass PIV/PLIF analysis, MATLAB, Python, and computational tools like Tecplot and Delft3D.

Labs & Collaborations
He leads research in the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Lab, collaborating on projects involving biological fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling, and environmental engineering challenges. His work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with applications in marine ecosystems and energy systems.
