Mohammad Amdad Ali

Mohammad Amdad Ali is a Researcher at the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 2019. Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Beckman Institute (2015–2019), a Lecturer in Chemistry at Bangladesh Agricultural University (2011–2012), and held research roles across institutions in South Korea and Australia.

He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Dhaka (2008), an M.S. in Advanced Materials Engineering from Kookmin University (2010), and a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from the University of Queensland (2015). His research focuses on molecular interfaces, thin film characterization, and stimuli-responsive soft materials. He employs advanced techniques like spectroscopic (ellipsometry, Raman), x-ray (XPS, XRD), thermal (TGA), and mechanical (DMA) analyses to study structure-property relationships in materials.

His publications span hydrogel design, polymer synthesis, and sensor technologies for environmental and security applications. Notable works include developing TNT detection systems and sustainable agricultural hydrogels. Ali has been awarded prestigious scholarships including the University of Queensland Centennial Scholarship (2012) and the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation fellowship (2008).
