Dr. Mohammad Al-Amin is an Associate Professor and Director of Studies for the Mechanical, Materials, and Process Stream at the University of Warwick's School of Engineering. He previously served as a Senior Teaching Fellow and Discipline Group Leader at Warwick's WMG, and held teaching roles at Coventry University. His academic background includes a first-class BSc in Mechanical Engineering (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, 2005), an MSc in Sustainable Energy Technologies (University of Southampton, 2009), and a PhD in solar photovoltaics from the University of Warwick (2017), for which he received the 'Faculty of Science Best Thesis Award'.
Dr. Al-Amin is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His research focuses on solar photovoltaic materials, energy storage systems (lithium-ion batteries), and sustainable energy solutions for developing countries. He leads international projects funded by the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) and the Leverhulme Trust, including initiatives to improve renewable energy storage in mass public transport and clean electric transport in Bangladesh.
His publications (over 20 papers, 10 in top-tier journals like IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics) address topics such as silicon solar cell performance, battery degradation, and low-temperature material processing. He has secured grants totaling over £2M, including a Leverhulme International Fellowship (2022–2024) for sustainable charging infrastructure in Bangladesh. Dr. Al-Amin teaches core modules in statics, dynamics, and mechanical engineering systems, emphasizing practical application through the Electromechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship program.
He is a Fellow at the Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD) and collaborates with global engineering institutes. His work bridges academic research and industrial application, particularly in advancing affordable clean energy technologies.
