Dr. Mohamed Gad is a Health Economist at Imperial College London’s Global Health and Development Group (formerly NICE International). He specializes in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), focusing on institutionalizing HTA in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). His work includes leading the 2015 WHO Global HTA Survey and technical support for iDSI’s initiatives in Ghana, the Philippines, and China. He holds a medical degree from Ain Shams University (2012) and a Master’s in Health Economics and Management from Erasmus University and Management Center Innsbruck.
Research interests include health systems strengthening, policy & regulatory affairs, and decision-making frameworks. He is an associate member of the World Medical Association (WMA), a member of the Piperska Group, and a visiting lecturer in the UK and Europe.
His articles emphasize HTA’s role in achieving UHC, particularly through cost-effective management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Ghana and institutionalization of HTA in Asia. Key projects include Ghana’s first national economic evaluation of hypertension management and advocacy for HTA units in the Philippines’ UHC Bill. Gad collaborates with global institutions like WHO and universities such as the University of Queensland and George Washington University.
