Dr. Mobeen Hussain is a Wellcome Trust Early Career Research Fellow in the Department of History at the University of York. Her research examines British Empire legacies, colonial consumption, and material cultures in South Asia, with emphasis on race, gender, and medicine. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Research interests include:
- Colonial medical practices
- Race and racialization in South Asia
- Gender and consumption patterns
- Postcolonial identities
Her publications explore the intersection of consumer culture and colonialism, particularly examining beauty products and their role in shaping racial and gender identities. Current projects investigate Unani Tibb medical practices and women's health in early 20th century India.
