Mladen Turk

Mladen Turk is a Professor and Chair of Religious Studies at Elmhurst University, serving since 2004. He holds the Baltzer Distinguished Chair of Theology and Religion, and serves as Assistant Director of the Honors Program. His work focuses on religion-science intersections, 19th/20th century Christianity, and South Asian religious traditions. He leads immersive study abroad programs in India, blending academic study with field experiences in rural communities.

Education: PhD in Religion (Zygon Center, Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago), Master of Theology (LSTC), Master of Philosophy (University of Bergen), and studies in philosophy/ethnology (University of Zagreb).

Research emphasizes cognitive and evolutionary theories of religion, methodology of religious studies, and interdisciplinary dialogue between science and theology. His publications include textbooks like Logic: Exercises and Solutions (1995) and edited volumes exploring contemporary faith-science dynamics.

Teaching includes courses such as Religions of India, Religion and Science, and Niebuhr Seminar. His India study programs provide students experiential learning opportunities, visiting both cultural landmarks and remote rural villages to observe living religious traditions.
