Mitchell Baker

Mitchell Baker is an MIT Media Lab Research Affiliate with the Open Agriculture Initiative and serves on the Advisory Board of the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy. She co-founded the Mozilla Project to promote an open, accessible internet and serves as Chairwoman of Mozilla, guiding its mission to ensure the web remains a global public resource. Her work emphasizes open source principles, digital rights, and the societal impact of technology.

As a Research Affiliate at MIT, her focus includes technology’s role in agriculture, digital governance, and ethical tech development. She has contributed to key documents like the Mozilla Public License, Mozilla Manifesto, and its 2018 Addendum. Mitchell has held influential roles, including co-chair of the U.S. Digital Economy Board of Advisors and membership on UN and ICANN panels addressing internet governance and women’s economic empowerment.
