Misty Lawrenson

Misty Lawrenson is a Senior Lecturer at Southern Methodist University, joining the faculty in January 2019. She holds a master’s degree in English Literature and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Composition from California State University, Fresno. Her research focuses on writing transfer, growth mindset pedagogy, and collaborative learning in composition classrooms, alongside studies on 18th- and 19th-century British female writers, marriage law in literature, and representations of marginalized voices.

Her work emphasizes utilizing prior knowledge and reflection to enhance student learning, particularly in addressing 'critical incidents' where knowledge transfer fails. She has co-authored a publication and presented at conferences such as the Mid-Atlantic Conference on College Composition and Communication and the Conference on College Composition and Communication.

Misty teaches Discernment and Discourse courses and actively engages in peer review workshop methodologies to foster collaborative learning environments. Her teaching philosophy prioritizes student confidence and proficiency in writing, alongside critical reasoning and communication skills.
