Prof. Miroslav Dachev is a leading academic in semiotics of art and cultural studies at the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts "Kr. Sarafov" (NATFA), where he holds the Chair of Semiotics of Art in the Department of World Culture. He is a Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (since 2021) and has served in key administrative roles, including Rector and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
His education includes a Doctorate in Philological Sciences (1997) from Sofia University, with research spanning literary semiotics, visual culture, and interdisciplinary studies. Notable achievements include pioneering work on the dynamics between text and image, particularly in Christian art and cinema, and extensive field research on Mount Athos, resulting in over ten monographs and exhibitions with artist Andrey Yanev.
Research focuses on applied semiotics, cultural heritage preservation, and the intersection of word and image in art. His awards include the 2003 First Prize for Humanities from the Bulgarian Writers' Association. Administrative leadership roles include Bologna Advisor, board memberships in educational councils, and founding the Center for Semiotic and Cultural Studies (2012).
