About
Dr. Mirna Solic is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow's School of Modern Languages & Cultures, where she serves as Comparative Literature Honours convener and Postgraduate Research Convener. She is also co-director of the Arts Lab in Migrations in Humanities and a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy of Scotland since 2021.
Her research focuses on literary, cinematic and visual representations of rivers and waterscapes, examining how creative interpretations contribute to understanding social transformations, wartime traumas, shifting postwar identities, deindustrialization, environmental issues, and migration. Her primary geographical focus is on the postwar Balkans and Central Europe, with comparative studies in other global post-conflict locations.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent trajectory exploring riverscapes as sites of memory, trauma, and migration. Her work bridges literary analysis, film studies, and cultural geography, with increasing emphasis on the environmental humanities and the political dimensions of waterways in post-conflict regions. The thematic evolution shows progression from studies of Central European literature to more complex interdisciplinary examinations of waterscapes as contested spaces.
