About
Professor Mirna Mrkonjić Fuka is affiliated with the University of Zagreb's Faculty of Agriculture, where she works in the Department of Microbiology under the Division for Agroecology. Her career spans multiple institutions, including the Technical University Munich and the Biotechnical Faculty University of Ljubljana, and she teaches courses such as 'Applied Microbiology in Agriculture' and 'Molecular Methods in Soil Microbiology.'
- PhD (2003-2007): Structural and Functional Diversity of Proteolytic Genes in Arable Fields, Technical University Munich, Germany
- MSc (1995-2002): Investigation of Black Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla pratensis subs. nigricans) at Ravna Gora, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb
Her research focuses on microbial communities in agricultural systems, emphasizing their functional and structural diversity, molecular characterization, and ecological applications. She applies molecular tools to study in situ microbial diversity and its implications for soil fertility, food safety, and environmental sustainability.
Professor Mrkonjić Fuka has coordinated numerous projects funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, MZO (Ministry of Science and Education), and EU programs, including ecological control of ragweed using reduced herbicide doses and phenolic acids, antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas spp. from karst caves, and microbial diversity in traditional Croatian sausages. She also explores microbial applications in biomass ash for agriculture and microbial encapsulation for agroecosystem viability.
