Dr. Hall’s research centers on German intellectual and cultural history since 1750, with a focus on radical music, punk culture, media theory, and Finnish-speaking Laestadian Lutheran communities. His interdisciplinary seminars attract students across disciplines and reflect his innovative approach to cultural studies. He has published extensively on German punk and musical resistance, and is currently engaged in research on transnational religious communities.
His recent publications and course themes indicate a strong interest in the intersections of media, philosophy, and cultural critique, particularly in Central Europe and diasporic communities. Topics such as Eastern Bloc science fiction, Byung-Chul Han’s media theory, and Freud’s representation in popular media reveal a scholar deeply engaged with contemporary cultural discourse.
