Mirko Francioni

Mirko Francioni is an Associate Professor in Engineering Geology at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, Italy, affiliated with the Department of Pure and Applied Sciences (DiSPeA). His academic journey includes post-doctoral work at Simon Fraser University in Canada, a Lecturer position at the University of Exeter in the UK, and research fellowships at Italian universities including Chieti and Urbino.

His research focuses on the innovative integration of remote sensing and GIS techniques for analyzing natural and engineered slopes. Francioni has developed novel methodologies for incorporating remote sensing/GIS data into conventional and numerical slope stability analyses. His international collaborations span Canada, UK, EU, and Africa, with field work conducted across these regions.

Francioni's recent publications (2023-2024) demonstrate a consistent research trajectory in landslide monitoring, rockfall hazard assessment, and slope stability analysis using advanced remote sensing technologies. His work spans diverse geographical contexts from Italian villages to Alaskan landscapes, with applications in cultural heritage protection, coastal management, and infrastructure safety.
