About
Miriam Watson is an Associate Professor in Particle Physics at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham. She holds a PhD and MA in Physics. Her research focuses on experimental particle physics, particularly studying the properties of the top quark and working with the ATLAS collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). She previously contributed to the OPAL experiment at LEP (CERN).
Her work involves analyzing data from proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions to explore fundamental particle interactions, including Higgs boson properties, vector boson processes, and searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model. She collaborates extensively with the ATLAS team and contributes to the Future Circular Collider (FCC) feasibility studies.
Key areas of research include jet flavor tagging, environmental sustainability of computing infrastructure in high-energy physics experiments, and precision measurements of top quark and W/Z boson interactions. She has authored over 1,800 publications and is a senior member of the Birmingham University physics group.
