Leibniz Institute for Experimental VirologyAbout
Prof. Dr. Miriam Agler-Rosenbaum leads the Biotechnology Center at the Leibniz Institute for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology (Leibniz-HKI) in Jena. Her department specializes in developing scalable biotechnological processes, from microbial strain optimization to industrial fermentation. The center uniquely supports cultivation across scales—microfluidic droplets to 4.5 m³ bioreactors—and integrates analytical, purification, and bioelectrochemical technologies.
Her research spans microbial fermentation, bioprocess intensification, bioelectrochemistry, and microfluidics. Key innovations include high-throughput screening platforms and bioelectrochemical systems for sustainable biochemical production. Recent publications emphasize metabolic engineering, real-time bioprocess monitoring, and co-culture systems.
She actively advises students, including PhD candidate Ashkan Samimi, and contributes to international initiatives like IMiLI. The Biotechnology Center collaborates extensively with regional universities and focuses on translating basic research into industrial applications.
