About
Miren Boehm is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM). She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine, and a BA in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her research focuses on Hume’s theoretical and practical philosophy, Early Modern Philosophy (particularly Newton and Mary Shepherd), and Contemporary Epistemology, including projectivist theories. She also teaches courses on Early Modern Philosophy, Religion and Science, and Applied Ethics (e.g., Abortion, Animal Ethics, Global Poverty).
Boehm’s work bridges historical and contemporary philosophy, with recent publications exploring Hume’s concepts of causation, imagination, and metaphysical possibility. Her 2025 article in Analysis Reviews reinterprets Hume’s use of imagination, while her 2024 chapter in Hume and Contemporary Epistemology argues that conceivability serves as Hume’s standard for metaphysical possibility rather than an epistemic tool. She has also contributed to edited volumes on Mary Shepherd, Claude Buffier, and early modern metaphysics.
Her publications span peer-reviewed journals (Synthese, Philosophers’ Imprint), book chapters, and reviews of major works on Hume. Boehm’s interdisciplinary approach integrates historical texts with modern debates in epistemology and metaphysics, often emphasizing the role of imagination and projectivism in shaping causal beliefs.
