Miqueias Mugge

Miqueias Mugge is a social and political historian at Princeton University's Brazil LAB and PIIRS. His research focuses on modern Brazilian history, militarization, borderlands, slavery, and immigration.

Mugge's work explores the political economy of war, slavery, and empire-building in Latin America, with a focus on Brazil's southern frontiers. His publications and teaching emphasize Brazil-Africa connections and public policy engagement.

Recent articles span the historiography of German immigration, Amazon conservation, Brazilian National Guard, and slave rebellions. Themes include militarization, colonial governance, demographic analysis, and cultural dissent.
