Prof. Minh Quang Tran is an Honorary Professor at EPFL's School of Basic Sciences (SB), Department of Physics. He has held key roles including Director of the CRPP (Center for Research in Plasma Physics), EURATOM-Swiss Confederation representative, and leader of European fusion projects. His expertise spans plasma physics, fusion energy, and high-power microwave technology. He earned his engineering degree and PhD from EPFL in 1973 and 1977, respectively.
Tran's research focuses on gyrotrons, tokamak physics (e.g., TCV), and fusion reactor design. He has contributed to ITER and DEMO projects, leading international collaborations. Awards include membership in Academia Europaea (2011) and Swiss Academy of Engineering Science (2005).
He has advised numerous PhD students and contributed to over 200 publications. His service roles include academic committee memberships, steering committees for fusion consortia, and leadership in EURATOM and EFDA initiatives.
