Minghao Li is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business at New Mexico State University’s College of Business. His research focuses on labor, urban, and agricultural economics with a particular emphasis on intergenerational mobility, trade policies, and China’s economic development. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural, Environmental, and Regional Economics from Penn State University (2017), and master’s degrees in Community Development & Applied Economics (University of Vermont, 2012) and Material Science (Jilin University, 2010).
His work examines topics such as the U.S.-China trade war’s economic impacts, China’s agricultural policies, and rural development strategies. He has published in journals like Journal of Urban Economics, China Economic Review, and Journal of Labor Economics. His recent studies analyze farmers’ behavioral responses to trade conflicts, intergenerational educational mobility in China, and the environmental implications of trade policies.
Dr. Li has received the Bruce Gardner Memorial Prize for Applied Policy Analysis (2018) and led/co-led grants totaling over $500k. He advises doctoral and master’s students in economics and agribusiness, and teaches courses including Econometrics II and Urban Economic Development. His research often combines quantitative methods with policy analysis to address global agricultural and economic challenges, particularly in transnational contexts like U.S.-China relations.
