Mine Eren

Mine Eren serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Director of the Film Studies program at Randolph-Macon College. A specialist in German and Film Studies with expertise in transnational narratives, she bridges academic leadership with creative scholarship to foster intercultural dialogue through cinema and literature.

Her educational foundation includes a PhD in German Studies from Brown University (1999) with Film Studies emphasis, an MA in German Studies from Brown University (1995), and an MA in German as a Foreign Language from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (1992), supplemented by studies in Linguistics and Pedagogy.

Dr. Eren's research explores Turkish-German cinematic production through intersecting lenses of migration, feminist theory, and memory studies. Her work analyzes how diasporic communities construct identity through home movies, feature films, and literary narratives, emphasizing the political dimensions of cultural representation in post-war Europe. Current projects examine culinary heritage as embodied memory in migration contexts.

Her 2018-2020 publications reveal consistent focus on German-Turkish cinematic relations, with increasing attention to transnational feminist frameworks. Articles analyze Wenders' European integration metaphors, Şamdereli's comedic migration narratives, and Kafka's reception in Turkish literature, demonstrating interdisciplinary rigor across film theory, literary criticism, and diaspora studies.
