Mindy R. Carter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University, Canada. She directs the Artful Inquiry Research Group (AIRG) and serves as an Associate Member at the McGill Institute for Human Development and Well-being (IHDW). Additionally, she is the Editor in Chief of the Arts-Based Research Book Series with Springer. Her roles emphasize leadership in arts-based educational research and curriculum development.
Dr. Carter holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, BC), an MA from Concordia University (Montreal, QC), a B.Ed from Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, ON), and an HBA from Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS).
Her research interests center on teacher identity, culturally responsible pedagogies, and social justice through drama education. She employs arts-based methodologies to explore how creativity and design thinking can transform educational practices, particularly in fostering equitable and reconciliatory praxis. Recent work includes projects like the CREATE program funded by FRQ and SSHRC, aiming to reimagine classrooms through interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange.
Her publications consistently address themes of teacher identity, curriculum innovation, and arts integration. Notable works include Smallest Circles First (2022) and a 2024 article in Qualitative Inquiry on collaborative creative engagements.
