Mina Kim

Dr. Mina Kim is an Assistant Professor of Art History at The University of Alabama, specializing in Korean art and global East Asian visual culture. Her research bridges historical and contemporary practices, examining identity, media, and transnational communication. She holds a PhD from The Ohio State University (2016) and has published widely on Korean avant-garde art, Pan Tianshou’s modernist contributions, and Buddhist themes in contemporary works.

Her recent book Contemporary Korean Art: New Directions since the 1960s (2024) redefines post-war Korean artistic trajectories. Ongoing projects include a transnational study of Korean American art and a monograph on artist Jung Yeondoo. She has presented at leading institutions like the College Art Association (CAA), The Art Institute of Chicago, and Seoul National University.

Kim’s honors include the 2024 New Face 31 Korean Power award and multiple grants supporting her research. She teaches in the Department of Art History and actively collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, such as using art to explain fluid mechanics for K-12 education.
