Mina Kim

Mina Kim is an Assistant Professor and Orchestra Director at the Conservatory of Music, SUNY Purchase College, where she has served since 2006. She chairs Classical Instrumental Studies and directs the Purchase Symphony Orchestra (PSO). She is also the 2023-2024 Music Director of the Woodstock Symphony Orchestra. Her roles include conducting, piano performance, vocal coaching, and chamber music collaboration.

Research & Performance: Kim specializes in orchestral conducting, contemporary works, and cross-genre collaborations. Recent projects include directing the PSO’s Black History Month celebration and a Philip Glass multimedia exhibition with Purchase’s Film School. She has collaborated with artists like Joshua Bell and Grammy-nominated Black Violin.

Teaching & Leadership: A mentor to music students, Kim has served as Assistant Conductor of the Mannes American Contemporary Ensemble and Chorus Master of The Mannes Opera. She balances conducting with piano performances globally (Savaria Symphony, Shanghai Symphony) and vocal coaching at opera programs in Italy and France.

Labs/Teams: Leads the Purchase Symphony Orchestra and collaborates with Purchase’s School of Film and Media Studies on interdisciplinary projects.
